Telling Time in Thai Part 4

Go back to part 3 here

Ok guys, this is going to be a short one. I would like to introduce the concept of hours, minutes and seconds to you in Thai.

This is very simple.

Hours = ชั่วโมง (Chua-Mong)

Minutes = นาที (Na-Tee)

Seconds = วินาที (Wi-Na-Tee)

If you look back to my numbers lesson here and here then you'll fine this to be very, very... easy.

so for example

8 Hours in Thai will be แปดชั่วโมง (Pad Chua-Mong)

4 minutes 25 seconds in Thai will be สี่นาทียี่สิบห้าวินาที (See Na-Tee, Yee-Sib-Haa Wi-Na-Tee)

And if I put them all together it'll look like this

แปดชั่วโมงสี่นาทียี่สิบห้าวินาที (Pad Chua-Mong, See Na-Tee, Yee-Sib-Haa Wi-Na-Tee) which is 8 hours 4 minutes and 25 seconds.

some of you might look at the Thai construction of the sentence to be a little too long...right?

lucky for you we live in a world where common sense can be used internationally.... well mostly...

you can put that same sentence together with numbers instead of words, like this:

8 ชั่วโมง 4 นาที 25 วินาที (Pad Chua-Mong, See Na-Tee, Yee-Sib-Haa Wi-Na-Tee) which is 8 hours 4 minutes and 25 seconds.

I think that looks a bit better.. don't you?
